The 2025 apple harvest in Kinnaur, India, has concluded with a total of 33.53 million boxes dispatched from the Himalayan region. While slightly below last year's record, the output reinforces Kinnaur's position as one of India's leading apple-producing areas.
Kinnaur's apples are known for their sweetness, crisp texture, and deep red color, which contribute to their strong demand and premium prices in Indian wholesale markets. According to local data, 12,671 vehicles transported the fruit from the mountain orchards to 11 major distribution points across the country. Delhi received over one million boxes, while Mumbai and Bithal were also key destinations.
Within Kinnaur, the Pooh block recorded the highest production with more than one million boxes, followed by Nichar and Kalpa. The Horticulture Department confirmed that dispatches are nearly complete and stated that "With dispatches nearly complete, the Chaura apple inspection barrier will officially close on November 15, marking the end of this year's transport season."
The conclusion of the apple season signals the start of winter in the region. Despite weather fluctuations and shifting market conditions, Kinnaur's apple growers continue to sustain local employment and contribute to India's fruit supply chain. The 2025 season underscores the continued importance of Himalayan horticulture to the country's domestic fruit market.
