PI acquires Biofresh Safestore to expand crop storage technology

UK-based agricultural investment firm PI has acquired Biofresh Safestore, a long-standing developer of fixed crop storage management systems. The move broadens PI's focus on post-harvest innovation and storage technology for the potato and wider crop sectors.

Biofresh Safestore has operated for more than two decades in sprout control, supplying fixed installations to storage facilities in the UK, Europe, and Japan. The company's presence in France will continue under the management of Jeremy Barraclough, who will remain involved in operations.

PI's acquisition complements its existing expertise in natural sprout suppression technology through its Restrain brand, which focuses on post-harvest applications and crop storage management. The combined operations are expected to give producers more flexibility across portable and fixed storage systems.

Rachel Cook-Coulson, CEO of PI, said the acquisition aligns with the company's long-term strategy to expand its technology base in post-harvest solutions. Dan Hewitt, Managing Director of Restrain UK, added that the integration of Restrain and Biofresh Safestore would strengthen their presence in European and international markets.
