Bangladesh expands fruit exports and trade ties with China

At the Bangladesh-China Green Textile Expo 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen stated that "more and more Bangladeshi quality agricultural products are entering the Chinese market." The event took place on October 23 at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka.

He noted that in May 2025, the first consignment of fresh Bangladeshi mangoes was successfully exported to China, and that both countries are now working to enable market access for jackfruit and guava.

Highlighting broader trade relations, Yao Wen said China has been Bangladesh's largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years, with bilateral trade exceeding US$24 billion. Since August 2024, more than 20 Chinese companies have signed investment agreements in Bangladesh, totaling nearly US$800 million.

He added that China has granted zero-tariff treatment to 100 per cent of Bangladeshi taxable products until 2028, describing it as part of a policy of "shared prosperity and sustainable development."

Yao said, "China-Bangladesh cooperation is not a zero-sum game but a path toward mutual benefit and improving people's livelihoods."

Referring to the expo's "Green Textile" theme, Yao said it marks a new stage in economic cooperation. "China is ready to work with Bangladesh to promote green transformation in the textile industry, support the introduction of energy-efficient technologies and eco-friendly materials, and enhance Bangladesh's competitiveness in the global supply chain," he said.

He emphasized the need for stronger collaboration in textile machinery, digital printing, and smart manufacturing to build a more sustainable industrial chain.

The ambassador also noted that 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of China-Bangladesh diplomatic relations and referred to President Xi Jinping's Global Governance Initiative (GGI), which promotes sovereign equality, international law, and multilateralism as guiding principles for inclusive development.
