Shaanxi starts remote fruit export inspections

Shaanxi Province in China has introduced a remote customs inspection platform for exported fruit, reducing clearance time and logistical costs for exporters. The system enables same-day declaration, inspection, and release through video conferencing between businesses and customs officials.

According to Shaanxi Daily, the packing department of Weinan Dali Ailin Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. recently connected with Weinan Customs via video call to complete the inspection of a 15.5-ton shipment of fresh grapes bound for Indonesia. This marked the first export fruit inspection conducted in Shaanxi using the remote territorial inspection platform.

The remote territorial inspection model was developed by the General Administration of Customs. It allows inspectors to review export shipments online, supported by company staff on-site and an intelligent digital backend. With this system, exporters no longer have to wait for physical inspection visits. They can initiate and complete the inspection process directly from mobile devices on the same day, or as needed.

Previously, scheduling and conducting in-person inspections typically required one or two days. The new remote video system reduces this to around 20 minutes, allowing declaration, inspection, and release within the same day. The model helps reduce logistical pressure, lowers storage costs, and supports maintaining fruit quality during shipment.

To implement the system, Weinan Customs formed a dedicated team that carried out software testing and process simulations to ensure operational stability. The agency also assisted companies in installing and configuring the one-stop mobile application, allowing users at different levels of digital readiness to adopt the system.

Additional facilitation measures, including local green inspection channels and cloud-based certificate issuance, were introduced to shorten clearance times, lower costs, and increase operational efficiency for exporters.
