With the change in weather, Pacbelimex's sought-after range is also shifting from summer to winter produce. "Strawberries and red fruits are gradually disappearing, while products such as cabbage, leeks, celery, pumpkins, mushrooms, potatoes, and onions are taking their place. Among these, mushrooms are one of our best-selling products," says Alison Lounes-Cherif of the Roeselare-based trading company.

Pacbelimex specialises in importing and exporting Belgian and French fruit and vegetables, but also works with regular external suppliers, particularly for mushrooms, and Dutch partners for various other products. Recently, the company gained access to a new business location through its collaboration with a sister company in the northern French town of Bois-Grenier. "France, including overseas territories such as Corsica, is a very important sales market for us, so this expansion allows us to serve it even better. On one hand, it enables closer cooperation with local French producers, while on the other, it reduces costs in supplying our French customers. This way, logistics are better distributed between Belgium and France."

Focusing on exports
With the move, Alison and her colleague Valérie Braems now work mainly in Belgium, while most of the staff are based in France. Besides France, the company exports to other European countries, including Scandinavia, and is also looking at further expansion into the Middle East. "Exports had slowed somewhat during the relocation period, but are now being restarted. In that regard, the Madrid fair served as a moment to reactivate old contacts and explore new export opportunities. The goal is to regain activity in markets where we previously had a strong presence. We are currently reconnecting with our customers. They have always been satisfied, but the relocation was our top priority for a while. Now, we're fully focused on rebuilding. We can certainly say that Fruit Attraction in Madrid was very successful in that respect."

Mix pallets popular
In this context, the importer and exporter expect to stand out through their specialisation in mixed pallets, which are custom-assembled for each customer. "We are one of the few offering this service. We assemble pallets with a wide variety of products in smaller quantities. This concept is particularly popular among wholesalers, as it allows them to offer a broad range of products without having to buy large volumes. Many customers place orders daily or every other day, allowing them to constantly refresh their assortment. Although we also handle full pallets, we see that mixed pallets are highly appreciated among our partners. With flexibility, reliability, and a wide range of products, we expect to continue our steady growth and rebuild our export business."
