In MY 2024/25, Morocco exported 21,800 tons of fresh sweet corn, generating over US$20 million in revenue, according to EastFruit with data from Global Trade Tracker via Morocco's Office des Changes. This represents a 28% increase compared to MY 2023/24 and a 61% rise over MY 2022/23. It is the first time exports exceeded 20,000 tons in a single marketing year.
Sweet corn exports from Morocco follow a seasonal pattern tied to domestic production. Harvests occur twice a year, in autumn (October to December) and spring (April to June), with the spring harvest driving peak export volumes.
European markets remain the main destination for Moroccan sweet corn, where it competes with Spain. In March 2025, heavy rainfall in Spanish growing regions caused crop losses and supply shortages across Europe. Demand for Moroccan products rose as Spain increased its imports.
For the first time since 2015, Spain overtook the United Kingdom as Morocco's largest importer. Spanish imports grew by 67% compared to MY 2023/24. Other European markets also increased purchases, with Germany up 52%, France up 30%, and Switzerland up 14%. In contrast, exports to the Netherlands fell by 15%.
In addition to sweet corn, Morocco continues to expand asparagus exports, reaching its fifth consecutive year of growth.
