The Spanish mango production is recovering this year with respect to the two previous seasons and is expected to reach around 30,000-35,000 tons, a similar figure to that of the 2022 campaign.
In 2024, drought and low temperatures caused the harvest to fall to 19,860 tons, while in 2022, Spain's mango production reached 30,357 tons, according to FAO data. That was the year before a major drought affected subsequent seasons.

"In 2025, there will be a more abundant Spanish mango season, although still moderate, without surpluses. It will be a staggered, high-quality production that will aim to regain the trust of European clients after two years of drought that left the market without sufficient supply. Now the water supply and the continuity of Spanish mango supply are guaranteed," says Juan Antonio Reyes Gutiérrez, manager of the Malaga-based company Reyes Gutiérrez.
"Our harvest will be staggered. The Osteen will be available from week 36 to 42; the Kent, from week 36 to 40, and the Keitt mangoes will be supplied from week 40 to 46," says Juan Antonio Reyes. "This will allow an orderly and stable supply, adapted to both national and international demand."
Strong demand is expected in Europe while domestic consumption continues to grow
According to FAO, in 2024, the main mango suppliers to the EU were Brazil (25%) and Peru (16%). Spain accounted for only 6% of the volume, including re-exports. Spanish mangoes are supplied mostly in the months of September to November and serve as a complement to the supply from third countries.
"Spain exported 33,806 tons of mangoes to the European Union in 2024 and, although this figure includes re-exports of imported mango, we believe that there is going to be a strong demand in the coming weeks," says Juan Antonio Reyes.

Another very important figure, according to the manager of Reyes Gutiérrez, is domestic consumption, which, according to FAO, amounted to 42,055 tons in 2024, and is currently on the rise. "This confirms that a large part of the mango produced in Spain is consumed domestically. More than a third of the production stays here, thus limiting the exportable volume. Thus, even in the best-case scenario, there is not enough to meet even half of Europe's needs. It must be taken into account that the European market consumes around 500,000 tons, which translates into a weekly average of 8 to 10,000 tons, compared to the 30,000-35,000 tons we produce in Spain."
Spanish mango to be promoted again in European supermarkets
Over the last two years, the low national production has made it difficult for the main retail chains to organize promotions with Spanish mangoes. "In 2025, when we are getting a more stable and guaranteed production, we are encouraging supermarkets and retail chains to promote Spanish mangoes once again," says Juan Antonio.

"Consuming locally-grown, domestic produce not only guarantees freshness and quality, but also helps our growers, promotes sustainability, and strengthens the local economy. This year, more than ever, we are asking for Spanish mangoes to be visible and accessible on the shelves and to be included in promotions, so that consumers can choose a local, excellent product with its own identity," he says.
"This could be a historic year for the consolidation of Spanish mangoes in Europe. The increased production will allow a more reliable supply between weeks 36 and 46," says Juan Antonio Reyes.
"Reyes Gutiérrez can guarantee the strength and continuity of Spanish mango supply in the European market. The 2025 mango season in Spain will be characterized by a good balance between production, domestic consumption, and exports, without the risk of oversupply in the EU markets," says the manager of this family company based in Velez-Malaga.
Reyes Gutiérrez will once again be present as an exhibitor at Fruit Attraction, in Madrid, between September 30 and October 2, in Hall 9, stand 9D21.
