From January to August 2025, Armenia exported 73,500 tonnes of fruits and vegetables to Russia. Of this volume, only 998 tonnes (1.36%) were returned, according to Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan.
In August alone, 762 trucks carrying Armenian produce entered Russia, and only four trucks returned. Most returned shipments were due to documentation issues rather than product quality. Minor misunderstandings in paperwork or phytosanitary requirements occasionally caused delays, but they did not significantly affect overall exports.
The Armenian authorities noted that Russia and Armenia will tighten phytosanitary inspections from September onwards. Exporters of fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, seeds, and planting material must comply with Russian and EAEU regulations. Failure to meet requirements could delay shipments or result in penalties.
According to the Armenian food safety agency, all shipments must undergo quarantine and phytosanitary checks at the destination. Partners in Russia must notify Rosselkhoznadzor immediately upon arrival to allow inspections. Non-compliance may lead to the refusal of phytosanitary certificates.
