In late August, sales of last year's stored apples almost ended, with only limited volumes left on the market. Growers who managed to keep good-quality fruit until the end of the season obtained high prices. Export sales were weaker, as foreign buyers found Polish prices too expensive.
New-season summer varieties such as Paulared, Piros, and Delikates were traded at 2.50–3.00 PLN/kg (€0.59-0.7). Antonówka, Mutsu, and the first Gala apples were sold in the same price range, but supply was still very limited.
On wholesale markets, prices were higher and more varied, between 3.00-5.00 PLN/kg (€0.7-1.17) depending on variety, quality, and daily demand. This was notably lower than the 1.64–1.88 EUR/kg recorded for the very first apples of the new season. Cheaper varieties included Piros and Paulared, while Celesta, Delikates, and Antonówka reached the upper end of the range.
Prices for processing apples dropped to 0.60–0.65 PLN/kg, around 40% lower than a year ago. Growers fear this could mean lower purchase prices for the new season, even though demand from juice producers remains strong.
Pears, mainly the Klapsa variety, were traded at 3.50–4.00 PLN/kg (€0.82-0.94) through trade companies and 4.00–5.00 PLN/kg (€0.94-1.17) on wholesale markets.
