AGF Monitor compares weekly price trends of various fruits and vegetables found online. Supermarktscanner.nl tracks the prices. The price survey takes place at the end of each week.
Cucumber
© Supermarktscanner.nlDirk returned to the old level in week 34, and at the other surveyed supermarkets, there were no promotions or price movements, so there is little to report on cucumber prices. Incidentally, the price is at the same level as last year.
Broccoli
© Supermarktscanner.nlIn recent weeks, there has suddenly been a lot of movement in broccoli prices. In week 33, the surveyed supermarkets seemed to be surprisingly aligned, but in week 34, we suddenly see a sharp increase at Albert Heijn and Hoogvliet (+14 cents), and even more so at DekaMarkt (+24 cents).
Blueberries
© Supermarktscanner.nlIn week 34, Hoogvliet surprised with a major promotion on blueberries, bringing the price down to the same level as Dirk (€2.99). DekaMarkt, on the other hand, raised the price significantly from €2.99 to €3.89 for 300 grams.
Mango
© Supermarktscanner.nlIn week 34, there were no changes in mango prices compared to the week before.
Strawberries
© Supermarktscanner.nl
DekaMarkt raised the prices of broccoli and blueberries considerably, but for strawberries, they actually lowered the price substantially, from €3.99 to €3.29 per 400 grams. At PLUS, the promotion ended and the price returned to the old level of €3.99.
Vine tomatoes
© Supermarktscanner.nl Dirk went deeper with its vine tomato prices: After a 10-cent cut in week 33, they launched another promotion with an additional 20 cents off. Hoogvliet also introduced a promotion of -20 cents. In contrast, Albert Heijn and PLUS increased their prices by 10 cents.
Price and quality
Price data come from Supermarktscanner.nl and are based on online prices in the webshops of Albert Heijn, Jumbo, Plus, DekaMarkt, Dirk, and Hoogvliet. Prices are averages, including promotions. This comparison does not take origin and quality into account. Most supermarkets do not mention these details on their websites; Hoogvliet and Jumbo list the country of origin. It is therefore possible that the comparison above includes unripe avocados alongside ripe ones, or Spanish cucumbers alongside Dutch ones.
Notes on the data
Vomar uses fixed prices online. Avocado has been missing from the online range since 2022 week 24, and so has Galia. Hoogvliet and Vomar hand oranges are sold in 1.5 kg packs, with prices converted to 2 kg for comparison. Jumbo only sells packaged vine tomatoes in sets of five instead of per 500g or kilo. For comparison, we count 100g per tomato.
