Zespri publishes first full forecast for the 2025/26 season

Zespri has published its first full forecast for the 2025/26 season, indicating record per-hectare returns for most kiwifruit categories, with the exception of SunGold and Organic Green.

Chief executive Jason Te Brake said the forecast reflects a strong start to the season, with sales performing well across major markets during the summer fruit period. Europe has been highlighted as a key driver, averaging more than two million trays sold each week for the past 13 weeks. Additional volumes have been reallocated to Europe and North America from Asia, where local economic conditions have slowed demand.

In China, Zespri reports softer sales rates and a higher-than-preferred level of inventory, around 20% above target. The company is working to move this fruit through the market while managing the impact of other seasonal fruit availability.

At the per tray level, forecast returns have increased since June across most categories, with the exception of SunGold and Sweet Green, which remain within the indicative ranges provided earlier in the year.

As the season moves into its second half, Zespri says its focus will remain on managing inventory and maintaining returns to growers.

Looking ahead, Te Brake said the results provide the basis for revising Zespri's longer-term strategy. The company's previous 10-year plan had targeted NZ$4.5 billion (US$2.7 billion) in sales by 2025, a target that has been met. Work is now underway on a 2035 strategy, which aims to address a more competitive global environment and sets out priorities for future supply, brand positioning, and product development.
