Cem Varnatopu, Noada Holding:

"Fig sales show clear growth in retail programs"

At Noada Holding, the Turkish fig season is in full swing. "Harvesting started in the second week of July in the Aydın region. In the second week of August, the season began in Bursa. The quality is significantly better, but the quantity is still limited, so prices are high," says Cem Varnatopu. For Noada, Western Europe, the UK, and Scandinavia are the main sales regions. "We see the strongest growth in the Netherlands and the UK, especially through retail, wholesale, and online sales channels."

The importer expects prices to remain high until supply from the Bursa region increases. "With the growing interest in healthy eating, figs are becoming increasingly popular. Especially in retail programmes, a clear increase is visible," Cem said. He is positive about market growth in the coming years. "Healthy food trends, new growing areas, and technological innovations ensure that the market is expected to continue growing."

As key trends in the fig market, Cem points out that new fig varieties and improved packaging provide longer shelf life and better presentation. "This season, we imported yellow figs mainly from the Aydın region (variety: Sarı Lop). This variety has become particularly popular within the wholesale sector."
