Companies under Zhanjiang Customs in Guangdong province, South China, have exported lychee to Belarus and Qatar for the first time this year, further diversifying the city's lychee export destinations, according to a statement from Zhanjiang Customs.
As of July, Zhanjiang Customs had supervised more than 7,070.6 metric tonnes of lychee exports, valued at about US$14.37 million (102 million yuan), to around 10 countries and regions. In addition to Belarus and Qatar, export destinations for the Lingnan-grown fruit include Australia, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, and Japan.
To support lychee exports, Zhanjiang Customs established a task force earlier this year to visit local companies and orchards. The team guides monitoring and preventing pest and disease outbreaks to ensure compliance with export requirements.
The Customs authority has also opened a green channel for lychee exports to expedite customs procedures and assist local enterprises in expanding sales to international markets.
The Zhanjiang and Maoming region, located on the Leizhou Peninsula in western Guangdong, is one of China's major lychee production bases.
In Guangzhou, the provincial capital, Guangzhou Customs supervised 2,818.6 metric tonnes of lychee exports in the first half of the year, representing a 17.6% year-on-year increase.
