Between January and May 2025, Kyrgyzstan imported 60,000 virus-resistant grape seedlings from Serbia, the Ministry of Agriculture reported. The imported plants passed all quarantine checks and include technical varieties suitable for local conditions.
The seedlings are part of efforts to develop viticulture in the Batken region, especially in the Leylek district. Local cooperatives in the Zhany-Zher rural area are cultivating varieties such as "Avatar" and "Kishmish."
In 2024, Kyrgyzstan's total vineyard area reached 2,600 hectares, with grape production totaling 7,300 tons. Average yields increased by 19.6%, reaching 23.2 centners per hectare.
