The French plum season looks very promising, with the first varieties that went on sale at the end of June. "All the American-Japanese varieties are really top quality this year. These include the Soriana, Obilnaya, which is coming to an end, Ruby Sun - whose harvest has started - Sapphire, and Tasty Sweet - which is making its market debut with confidential volumes. We are looking forward to the Reine-Claude at the end of July, which should also live up to consumer expectations," explains Joël Boyer, co-president with Jérôme Capel of the AOPn Prunes producers' association. This good quality is largely due to the sunny weather, which allowed the fruit to gorge itself with sugar.

"We have had very good follow-up this year, and French consumption is well established. Our supermarket clients are playing the game by promoting the French origin, a well-deserved reward for a quality plum. We are really pleased with the way retailers are treating French plums, and we hope that this will continue throughout the season."
The campaign got off to an auspicious start, saluting the work undertaken by the AOPn Prunes producers over the last few years. The association represents nearly 400 French growers and 20,000 tons of production. "This is proof that the plum growers' efforts are bearing fruit, thanks in particular to new attractive varieties with a taste that has established itself in recent years. While we are still in the testing phase for some varieties, we have some very exciting things in store for the future."
