In the first half of 2025, Ukraine's importation of "borsch" vegetables reached $152.018 million, comprising potatoes, carrots, beets, cabbage, and onions.
The State Customs Service (SCS) data indicates a remarkable upsurge in potato imports by 7.9 times, totaling 121.606 thousand tons, costing $65.145 million, 6.9 times higher than the previous year for the same period.
Analyzing market shares, 36.49% of Ukraine's potato imports originated from Poland, generating $23.77 million. Egypt contributed 13.73% for $8.945 million, and the Netherlands supplied 11.66% for $7.594 million.
Conversely, the onion import volume saw a minor reduction by 1.1% to 15.747 thousand tons, costing Ukraine $17.69 million, up from $15.5 million in the previous year. China and Egypt were major onion suppliers, accounting for 26.96% and 21.55%, bringing in $4.769 million and $3.812 million, respectively. The Netherlands contributed 18.85% with $3.335 million in supply value.
Cabbage import expanded 2.5 times compared to the previous year, reaching 47.252 thousand tons and amounting to $42.075 million, over double the amount spent in the first half of 2024. Main suppliers were Macedonia (33.3%), Poland (24.9%), and the Netherlands (13.47%).
Additionally, imports of carrots, beets, and celery multiplied by 7.9 times to 43.065 thousand tons, costing $27.108 million against $4.36 million previously. Poland, Moldova, and the Netherlands dominated the supplier market with shares of 47.04%, 13.53%, and 11.93%, respectively, amassing earnings of $12.752 million, $3.667 million, and $3.235 million.
