"After a challenging period when the European market was flooded with an oversupply of limes, the situation has now stabilised," says Rene Bouman of Fruit Market International (FMI).

"In the first months of the year, high volumes from Brazil in particular put pressure on prices and created an imbalance in the market. In recent weeks, however, there has been a clear turnaround. A temporary decrease in shipments from Brazil has brought the supply into better balance. At the same time, the sunny summer weather in large parts of Europe is driving strong demand, which is supporting prices."
"Nevertheless, caution remains necessary. Significant volumes of lime have been loaded again over the past two weeks, partly due to falling domestic demand in Brazil. This means there will once again be ample availability in the European market in the coming weeks. The hope is that demand will remain strong and the market will be able to absorb these volumes well, especially with Spanish limes soon entering the market," the importer concludes.
