A recall of melons sold in French Carrefour outlets has been announced due to elevated pesticide residue levels. Rappel Conso, France's product recall site, highlighted melons from the Provence region under the Reflets de France brand.
The affected melons were sold loose between June 21 and July 8, making identification challenging as they lack batch numbers or stickers. Consumers should verify the purchase dates against the recall notice.
The herbicide fluazifop-P, utilised for grass weed management, was found in excess of the legal maximum residue limits (LMR), as described by the French Ministry of Agriculture. The University of Hertfordshire classifies fluazifop-P as a potential kidney, spleen, and liver toxicant, with risks of inhalation or ingestion. It may also cause skin irritation, respiratory issues, and eye cataracts.
Consumers experiencing related symptoms should seek medical advice. Those in possession of the affected melons are advised to dispose of them immediately. Refunds are available through consumer services at +33 (0)8 05 90 80 70.
The recall period concludes on July 26, 2025.
