Asda will become the first UK supermarket to offer Scottish-grown golden raspberries, as the rare summer fruit arrives in selected stores this weekend. The limited-edition berries, grown by Bruce Farms in Perthshire and supplied through Scotty Brand, will be available while stocks last and sold alongside traditional red raspberries.

Bruce Farms, a fourth-generation farm based in Meigle, collaborated with Asda and Scotty Brand to bring the 'All Gold' variety to market. The golden raspberries are the result of a small-scale trial and are expected to appeal to consumers seeking new fruit varieties during the summer season.
Geoff Bruce, Director at Bruce Farms, said the crop represents a new direction for the soft fruit sector in Scotland. "We've been developing these golden raspberries for a while, and it's encouraging to see them grow successfully in Perthshire's farmland. Although the crop is limited, it offers a unique option for consumers during a short summer window."

Golden raspberries are described as having a delicate texture and a mild tartness, with a yellow hue that distinguishes them from the more common red variety. The berries have already been used in professional kitchens, including at Restaurant Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles, where head chef Stevie McLaughlin has incorporated them into summer desserts. He noted that the fruit also suits simple dishes, such as fruit salads.
Scotty Brand, the supplier working with Bruce Farms, said the development is part of broader efforts to diversify the range of Scottish-grown produce available in the UK market. Andrew Young, Development Manager at Scotty Brand, said the introduction of golden raspberries reflects ongoing work with local growers to explore new varieties and production methods.

Asda confirmed the product will be sold in select UK stores for a limited time. Ashley Connolly, Local Buying Manager for Asda Scotland, said the collaboration is part of the retailer's focus on offering seasonal and regionally sourced produce.
