National French Fry Day returns on July 11

National French Fry Day 2025 is set to be the ultimate celebration of one of the world's most beloved comfort foods. Held annually on the second Friday of July, this year's crispy festivities fall on Friday, July 11, 2025. From fast food chains to gourmet kitchens, French fries continue to bring people together with their golden crunch, savory flavor, and endless pairing possibilities. Whether served on their own, alongside burgers, or loaded with toppings, fries have secured their place as a global culinary favorite.

This food holiday is more than an excuse to indulge; it's a tribute to the cultural significance, creativity, and comfort that French fries offer. Consumed in nearly every country, fries take on countless forms, from Belgian frites and Canadian poutine to American curly fries and Indian masala varieties. Their versatility in cuts and flavors, including shoestring, waffle, crinkle, sweet potato, and seasoned, adds to their universal appeal. National French Fry Day brings communities together through events, special promotions, and a steady wave of digital celebrations.

Food lovers and brands worldwide join in the fun with giveaways, restaurant deals, and themed fry experiences. Major chains like McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, and Checkers roll out free fries or app-based specials. At home, fans host tasting parties with different styles, toppings, and sauces. International favorites such as truffle parmesan, spiced, or animal-style fries add flavor to the day, while #NationalFrenchFryDay trends across social media with photos, recipes, and reviews.

French fries hold an iconic place in food history. The average American eats more than 30 pounds of fries per year. Despite the name, fries likely originated in Belgium, and the term "French fries" first appeared in American print in 1856. In the U.S., fries remain one of the top-selling fast food items of all time.

The celebration date was moved in 2023 from July 13 to the second Friday of July after a public petition, ensuring the holiday lands on a proper "Fry-day." As National French Fry Day 2025 approaches, the world prepares once again to honor the potato in all its crispy, golden glory.
