On June 22, Beijing's Xinfadi Market inaugurated a cutting-edge banana distribution centre serving the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. The facility handles around 135,000 boxes daily and releases approximately 15,000 boxes into the market, about 30% of Beijing's daily banana demand. The announcement was reported by Guojiguoshu.
Equipped with controlled-atmosphere storage, the centre cuts ripening time from seven days to three while boosting yield rates to 99% and reducing energy consumption by approximately 35%. This translates into savings of about $0.03 in electricity costs per box. The technology ensures synchronised ripening of both domestic and imported bananas, improving quality and reducing waste.
Fruits and industry representatives from major banana-producing countries, including Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Peru, the Philippines, and Ecuador, participated in the opening ceremony. This facility marks a significant step toward streamlining banana logistics and strengthening supply stability at one of China's major fruit hubs.
