Local officials in Panjshir, Afghanistan, declared the export of 100 tons of fresh cherries to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Moscow, Russia, as part of an initiative to boost trade relationships and create market prospects for local growers.
Saifuddin Mankhan, spokesperson for the Panjshir governor, stated that Governor Hafiz Mohammad Agha Hakim has conducted dedicated meetings with businessmen from these regions to improve logistics and ease the export procedure. The cherries are valued at approximately 20 million afghanis ($227,000 ) and are scheduled for shipment this week.
Mawlavi Amin-ul Haq Matsoori, head of the provincial Chamber of Commerce and Industry, noted that "This export will not only open new markets but also contribute significantly to the economic growth of Panjshir."
The preceding year saw Panjshir cherries reaching India and Pakistan, yielding 360 million afghanis for regional farmers. Nonetheless, political and trade complexities in those markets have diminished their viability, leading to the current shifts in export strategy.
