The harvest for Portuguese blueberries is about to kick off, says Ricardo Machado, export manager of berries for Portuguese berry trader Minikiwi Farm: "This year the Portuguese blueberry production is more delayed than we had anticipated. We had a very rainy winter, which in itself delayed the production. However, we're getting close to the start, as harvest will begin next week. Thankfully, despite the delay, this seems to be a very productive year, with the blueberries having excellent quality. Let's just hope the weather stays on our side until all blueberries are harvested."

Machado feels it'll be a positive season for them, with quality being where it's currently at. "We are confident that it will be a good year. Above all, quality is always important, with quality and seriousness in what we do, we have everything. This is one of the virtues that Fazenda Minikiwi has. We have grown year after year thanks to the trust of our producers and customers."

Minikiwi farm intends to increase its acreage for blueberries, planting new varieties as well: "As a company, we're currently making investments to further ensure the best possible quality for our products. We're also increasing the acreage in Northern Portugal with new blueberry varieties, and all new farms are equipped with rain protection to protect us from weather impacts," Machado concludes.
