"I have learnt one fundamental thing over the years: there is no perfect machine in an absolute sense, but there is the right machine for a specific farm, in a specific cultivation or organisational context. This is the principle on which every technical and commercial choice we make at BFM is based," explains Fabrizio Bertoluzzo, founder of BFM Italy, a company that designs and builds agricultural machinery and exports it all over the world.
"Every day, I deal with fruit and wine growers who have completely different needs: narrow or wide row systems, hilly or flat terrain, sandy, clay, or stony soils, organic or traditional approaches. In such a heterogeneous world, the answer cannot be standardised."
When farmers approach BFM, they are not immediately offered a specific piece of machinery. "We start an in-depth technical dialogue where we ask questions, listen and analyse needs. We are interested in understanding the problems they want to solve, the characteristics of the equipment, the tractors they work with, what are the operational constraints. This first phase is the heart of our approach."
"It often happens that a company contacts us after buying standardised machinery from large manufacturers, realising that it does not fit well with the business. At BFM, we follow the opposite logic: we start with what's needed, not with what's in stock."
The machines proposed by BFM can be:
- a specially-configured existing model;
- a version modified according to operating requirements;
- a completely customised solution.
"It is not uncommon for us to intervene with customised modifications already at the design or pre-delivery stage. This flexibility allows us to guarantee efficiency, savings, and lasting satisfaction."
A technical choice that makes the difference
A wrong machine is paid for twice: once at purchase, and then over time. The right machine, on the other hand, increases productivity, reduces consumption, lasts longer, and brings visible benefits from the very first year.
"That's why I consider every machine that leaves our factory a technical response to an actual need. We are not interested in selling 'iron', but in really helping those who work in the fields. My advice to farmers is not to just wonder 'what machine do I need', but 'what problems do I want to solve'. That's where you start from."
