Cambodia opens first durian export facility

Cambodia has inaugurated its first durian packing facility for international export in Chantong Village, Sralob Commune, Tbong Khmum District. HF FRUIT LTD established the facility, focusing on the Chinese market for Cambodian durians.

The provincial government supports this investment, with Mr. Heng Pisith, Director of the Tbong Khmum Provincial Department of Agriculture, stating, "This is a historic moment for Cambodia's agricultural landscape." The facility allows farmers in Tbong Khmum to sell durians at competitive prices while meeting international quality standards.

The plant will process durians by size, type, and quality, with market price-based purchasing decisions. This approach aims to reduce operational costs for farmers and promote higher production standards.

Cambodia currently has 5,289 hectares of durian farms, with an annual yield of about 36,656 tons. In Tbong Khmum Province, 950 hectares are dedicated to durian cultivation. The packing plant facilitates export opportunities beyond Thailand and Vietnam, enhancing Cambodia's position in the global durian market.

Local farmers view the plant's operations as a promising future. The initiative is seen as an economic opportunity and a means to enhance the quality and global recognition of Cambodian durians.

These developments position Cambodia to strengthen its presence in the international agricultural market, contributing to economic growth and sustainability.
