Argentina's fresh stone fruit exports drop 44%

This season, Argentina exported 4.803 tons of peaches, plums, and nectarines between October and April. This is 44% less than in the same period of the previous season and 11% less than the average of the last three seasons (2021/22-2023/24), according to reports from the National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (SENASA).

The decrease is linked to a lower harvest and the loss of competitiveness in external markets. Peach remains the main export product, reaching 2,805 tons in 2024/25, down 46% compared to the previous season and 6% compared to the average of the 2021/22-2023/24 period. Peach exports make up about 60% of Argentina's total stone fruit exports.

Production was projected at over 110,000 tons this season, similar to last season. However, quality problems due to weather issues increased the participation of the industrial sector, especially in canning. Most of the peach crop is destined for the industry. The remainder is destined for the domestic market, and a smaller proportion for export.

Plum exports amounted to 1,237 tons in 2024/25, a 33% decrease over the previous season and a 6% fall compared to the average of the last three seasons. Plum production is concentrated in Mendoza, San Juan, and Rio Negro, with 11,000 hectares cultivated mainly for the dried plum industry. Argentina is the world's fourth-largest plum producer, accounting for 6% of the world's total with a production of 16,000 to 18,000 tons. Brazil is the main destination for fresh plum exports, accounting for more than 80% of purchases.

Nectarine exports have amounted to just over 761 tons in the current season, 54% less compared to the previous season and 28% less than the average of the last three seasons. Nectarine production is significant in Argentina. Mendoza, San Juan, and La Rioja are the main producing regions. The estimated production for this season was 7,000 tons, mainly for the domestic market and industry, with marginal exports.
