The beginning of March marks the start of the 2025 asparagus season for Maïsadour. The campaign is off to a good start, despite the rainy weather that made access to the plots difficult. "Our growers are located all the way from the south of the Gironde to the south of the Landes. In the southwest of France, we had some very good windows of opportunity to work the plots in January. Thanks to the frost, the land was able to dry out well, especially after the rain that fell steadily through the fall and winter periods. By the end of January, 85% of the land had been ridged," explains Lucie Gemain, head of Fresh Vegetables and New Crops at Maïsadour.

Good weather conditions in early 2025
Weather conditions continue to be favorable at the start of 2025, with the southwest of France enjoying "lovely spring conditions." The asparagus has been emerging since the start of last week. Their arrival coincides with the International Agricultural Show in Paris, a benchmark in terms of timing.
A harvest target of 1,350 tons
Although growth has been relatively slow, the size of the first asparagus harvested is good. "They are arriving slowly, but what is coming out is interesting. We are confident for the moment, as all the conditions are met for a good season. We should be able to start marketing shortly." This year, Maïsadour has set itself a production target of 1,350 tons, the same as last year, although this target was not achieved due to complicated harvest conditions.
Another objective: to recruit 4 new producers by 2025
In parallel with the start of the season, Maïsadour continues to recruit growers. We have met several new people who are interested in growing asparagus. However, getting started with this crop takes time, so although these meetings are a positive sign, we need to continue our campaign with the aim of recruiting 4 producers this year."
