Fresh ginger didn't get off to a good start in 2025. In January, Peru exported 2,934 tons of fresh ginger for $5.9 million. This is 2% less volume and 26% less value over the same month of 2024. The fall in the average price per kilogram, going from $2.68 in 2024 to $2.01 in 2025, was a determining factor in this decrease.
Peru exported the product to 12 markets in January. The United States was the main market with a 71% share. Peru shipped 1,802 tons worth $4.16 million at an average price of $2.31 per kilogram to this market. Compared to 2024, the volume fell by 16% and the value by 32%, while the average price decreased by 20%.
The Netherlands was the second destination with 17%, 487 tons worth $1 million and an average price of $2.07 per kilogram. Compared to the same month in 2024, exports to this market grew by 66% in volume and 26% in value.However, the average price fell by 24%.
Canada ranked third with a 5% share, 134 tons worth $304,048, and an average price of $2.28 per kilogram. Compared to 2024, exports to this market fell by 25% in volume and 44% in value, with a 25% reduction in the average price.
