The first participation in Fruit Logistica 2025 seems to have helped consolidate the presence of the newly established producer organization Tenute Zuccarella in strategic markets for the premium segment, such as Italy, Germany, and Great Britain.
"We registered a surge in requests for strawberries and a growth of foreign operators interested in our commercial offer," says Rocco Zuccarella, President of the Board of Directors of the Producer Organisation. "The Berlin event represented a strategic opportunity to strengthen relations with buyers and distributors, confirming the growing interest in Candonga Fragola Top Quality and Inspire strawberries, as well as in exotic fruits grown in Basilicata such as mangoes, avocados, and finger limes. This pushes us to invest further to meet the growing demands of the national and international markets."
The 2025 strawberry season, which started late, is proving positive on the commercial front. "We are trying to fill all orders and plan supplies for the coming months in Italy and Europe. The production of Candonga Strawberry Top Quality and Inspire varieties will increase by 25% in the coming weeks. Cultivation takes place entirely under glass, both in soil and above ground, to optimize water resources and guarantee a superior quality product. The increase in cultivated areas and the quality of the product make it possible to respond to increasing demand, both in Italy and Europe, but the volumes are still not sufficient to satisfy all requests. This is why we will increase the crops by 30% next year."

The climatic conditions in Basilicata in recent years have favored the cultivation of exotic fruit with high-quality standards. "This, combined with our agronomic research, has allowed us to develop mango, avocado, and finger lime crops with premium characteristics, respecting the principles of sustainability. We have adopted innovative techniques so that these crops can thrive in our territory with a reduced environmental impact."
The growing demand for high-quality Italian exotic fruit has opened up new perspectives for the domestic and international markets. "Consumers and buyers are looking for products with guaranteed traceability and a higher quality than that of imported goods. The experience of our PO offers a competitive alternative, ensuring freshness, sustainability, and a controlled supply chain."
Tenute Zuccarella is the first company in Basilicata to grow exotic fruit. "We guarantee a short and controlled supply chain, reducing emissions related to transport and improving the freshness of the product. The ripening of plants allows us to obtain fruit with a more intense flavor compared to imported exotic fruit, which is often harvested when not yet fully ripe, precisely in order to be able to cope with long journeys. Furthermore, we adopt techniques that reduce water consumption and preserve soil fertility, making our crops more sustainable. We have initiated studies on new exotic fruit varieties and will continue to invest in research and innovation to strengthen our competitiveness and establish ourselves as a benchmark for high-quality products. Of course, strawberries remain our core business. Our model of innovative, ethical, and sustainable agriculture is proving to be a winner."
