Armenia and Kyrgyzstan could reduce EAEU's dependence on imported fruits and berries

The food self-sufficiency rate in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) reached 92.2% in 2024, according to Maria Baygot, Head of the Agro-Industrial Policy and Interstate Projects Department at the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

Despite strong self-sufficiency in products like meat, grain, and vegetable oil across EAEU countries, there remains significant dependence on imports for fruits and berries, with nearly half of the supply coming outside the union.

Baygot noted that some member states have significant potential to increase internal deliveries.

"Countries like Armenia and Kyrgyzstan demonstrate a relatively high level of self-sufficiency in fruits and berries," said Baygot. "There is considerable potential for these countries to expand their contributions to the EAEU market."
