Fresh produce exports surge in Uzbekistan in 2024

At a recent briefing held by the Agency of Information and Mass Communications, Sabina Sadinova, the head of the agency's information service, provided updates on Uzbekistan's export and import activities for the first six months of 2024.

The number of exporters in Uzbekistan has seen a significant rise. As of now, all fruits and vegetables can be exported to 56 countries with the use of a phytosanitary certificate from the Agency for Plant Quarantine and Protection. Over 1,600 entrepreneurs are currently exporting fruits and vegetables to international markets.

To further facilitate the export of fruits and vegetables to Russia, an agreement on digital cooperation in the phytosanitary sector was signed. The Central Bank of Uzbekistan reported that in the first half of 2024, exports of fruits and vegetables to Russia increased by 11%.

Over the past six months, Uzbekistan has received phytosanitary permits for the export of 11 types of agricultural products to four countries, bringing the total to nearly 600 permits. New opportunities for export have been created, including chickpeas to China, radishes, sesame seeds, beans, green peas, cabbage, coriander, and saffron to South Korea, cherries to France, and tomatoes and bell peppers to the United Kingdom.

Uzbekistan's authorities conducted 178,000 inspections on imported products, identifying 17 types of quarantine pests in 730 instances, leading to the implementation of appropriate measures. Regarding imports, 442 complaints were sent to six countries, while 38 complaints were received from three countries concerning exports, with necessary actions taken in response.

According to the regulatory body, in January-June 2024, Uzbekistan's main trading partners remained China, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Turkey.
