In Moldova, the newest sweet cherry sorting and packaging line has been launched. Investments in the equipment exceeded one million dollars. The line automatically selects cherries based on three criteria: size, colour, and calibre, and it also detects cherries with internal defects.
The production chain includes a hydro cooler to cool the cherries. In the final stage, manual labour is still required to pack the cherries into boxes and crates.
In 2023, cherry exports amounted to 16 thousand tons, valued at more than 22 million dollars. This allowed Moldova to enter the top ten leading cherry-exporting countries in the global market. In 2024, from May to June, exports reached 12,300 tons of cherries, of which 1,700 tons were shipped to EU markets.
