Uttar Pradesh, with its conducive soil and climate, emerges as the foremost potato producer in India, accounting for about 30% of the nation's total production. The state plays a crucial role in meeting the potato demand across India, contributing significantly to the overall output of approximately 26 million tons annually.

Following Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal ranks as the second-largest potato producer, offering around 24% to the national production. The state's favorable conditions for potato cultivation, alongside efficient agricultural practices, have established it as a key player in the sector.

Bihar is recognized as the third-largest potato-producing state, contributing about 18% to India's total potato output. The state's agricultural advancements and focus on productivity enhancement have facilitated a consistent increase in potato production, reinforcing its importance in the national agricultural landscape.
