Juan Camilo, Avocados Planet:

“Market demand for Colombian Hass avocados remains strong in key US and European markets”

Colombia is seeing increased demand for Hass avocados with 25% production volume increase for the rest of the year projected led by the US and Europe with Asian demand picking up too. Juan Camilo, from Avocados Planet says, "With a record of exports in 2023 and growth projections of 20% for 2024, our sector is committed to positioning Hass Origin Colombia as a leader in flavour, quality, and sustainability."

"The market demand for our Hass avocados remains strong and growing, especially in key markets such as the United States and Europe. We observe a growing preference for high-quality and sustainable products, which has driven the demand for our avocados. Currently, in the United States, prices range between $40 and $45 for size 48's, while in Europe, they are around 15 EUR for size 18's. These prices may vary depending on factors such as seasonality, product availability, and market conditions. However, we can offer competitive and fair prices that reflect the value and quality of our Hass avocados. We anticipate a promising year for Colombian fruit in 2024, especially considering the continued increase in demand and the trend towards sustainable and high-quality products," explains Camilo.

Their export markets for the Hass avocados include clients in the United States, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and South America, especially Chile. "These markets represent a significant part of our export strategy and allow us to meet the global demand for our high-quality Hass avocados. Our Hass avocado is mainly cultivated in seven key departments of Colombia: Antioquia, Risaralda, Quindío, Caldas, Valle del Cauca, Huila, and Tolima. With a total extension of 400 hectares between our own production and that of allies, we guarantee high standards of quality and production volume. For the upcoming season, we plan to ship at least 10 containers each week. This increase in shipping capacity will allow us to further consolidate our distribution channel in the markets of the United States and Europe to ensure a constant supply," states Camilo.

He says Avocados Planet has a long track record of Integrated Logistics, they have a commitment to food safety, while sustainability is at the heart of their business. "We pride ourselves on having integrated logistics, which traces the path from harvest to final delivery. We have the experience and infrastructure of Transintercargo Group, an integrated logistics forwarder with more than 20 years in the international market. This ensures that our best avocados reach international markets at good prices and in the best conditions of freshness and quality," concludes Camilo.
