Poland is currently enforcing an embargo on Ukrainian grain imports and is considering expanding this embargo to encompass additional Ukrainian products, including vegetables, sugar, rapeseed, and oil. This potential expansion was disclosed by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk following discussions with the Visegrad Four in Prague.
Tusk highlighted the necessity of extending the embargo to protect the European and Polish markets more effectively, pending the EU's development of better protective measures. He expressed concerns over the lack of standards for Ukrainian products compared to the high standards required of European and Polish farmers, emphasizing the importance of supporting Ukraine without compromising the Polish economy. "The standards required of European and Polish farmers are very high. And there are no standards, no requirements for Ukrainian products. We want to help Ukraine - this is not up for discussion, but it cannot be at the cost of measures that will be fatal for entire sectors of the Polish economy," Tusk stated.
