Potato Market Report Weeks 8-9:

'Early potatoes from Italy and Cyprus have gained slight significance'

Domestic storage potatoes continued to dominate the market, with French Agata and Dutch Victoria from Frankfurt complementing this segment. Early potatoes from Italy and Cyprus gained slightly in importance, not least due to the price difference. According to the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE), the quality remained convincing and the market was rather quiet. In Berlin, the domestic Annabelle gradually withdrew from the market. Hamburg also reported a temporarily difficult supply situation, which kept prices stable. In Munich, some domestic storage varieties gained in value. Early potatoes gradually gained importance, with access to Italian and Cypriot batches. These remained relatively expensive in Munich, while in Hamburg, Italian Sieglinde and Spunta slightly reduced in price due to quality deficits. In Frankfurt, interest in early potatoes remained low.

Rhineland-Palatinate:
Local producer prices are predominantly nominal, with actual payout prices varying greatly due to quality. Top qualities are paid significantly more, while problematic qualities receive discounts. In general, quality restrictions are increasing, and storage quantities are rapidly declining. From sandy, quickly drying locations in the Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg, and Hesse, the first plantings are already being reported.

Schleswig-Holstein:
The rates for flawless goods continue to rise. The steady demand is met by a sufficient supply. The relatively mild winter has further increased storage problems. It is expected that sorting out will increase again. Observers doubt whether the storage quantities will meet the demand of gastronomy and food retail until the end of the season. Good batches are already being held back in anticipation of rising prices. Only sporadically could early potatoes be planted on a supra-regional level. Seed potatoes are scarce this year. Prices for industrial goods on the futures market are also rising.

NRW:
The marketing of table potatoes is continuous. Premium goods remain in demand but are currently available in sufficient quantities. The general mood in the industrial market remains positive. The REKA quotation was raised by €2.00/100 kg across all varieties.

Lower Saxony:
The price increase was able to establish itself in the market. The supply and demand for potatoes were balanced.

Hesse:
Compared to the previous week, there has been another price increase in all segments of the table potato market.
