A Valencian farmer is forced to throw away more than 100,000 kilos of mandarins because of imports

In the video below, a Valencian grower complains about how the arrival of cheap imports from Egypt forces producers like him to throw away their production. "We just have to take the mandarins from the top of the tree to the ground, so we all lose," he stated.

"There is a lot of talk about environmental care and respect for workers, but hiring a worker here costs €2,000 while a worker in the countries where cheap mandarins are sourced a worker earns €150 a month. How can we compete against that?" he asked. Traders and importers are the ones that earn a lot of money, "consumers don't buy it a cheaper price," he said.

"This is Spain's food waste," he states as he shows the mandarins on the ground. "More than 100,000 kilos have been dumped here on the ground. Is there no law to prevent food waste? Here's our law," he concluded.
