Despite ample supply

Vegetable prices remain high in Lahore

Despite the abundance of seasonal vegetables as winter draws to a close in Pakistan, prices remain stubbornly high. Notably, onions continue to be sold above Rs200 per kg despite a reduction in the official rate list.

Potatoes, onions, and tomatoes also see significant markups, with the actual selling prices far exceeding the official rates. The situation is similar for garlic, ginger, and various fruits, where the selling prices substantially surpass the fixed rates, underscoring the gap between official pricing and market reality. This discrepancy highlights the need for more effective price regulation in the market to protect consumers from being overcharged.

The price of potato soft skin gained by Rs3 per kg, fixed at Rs44-48 per kg, B-grade fixed at Rs37-40 per kg, and C-grade fixed at Rs32-35 per kilogram, mixed sold at Rs60-80 per kg. The price of onion A-grade gained by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs160-165 per kg, sold at Rs180-200 per kg, B-grade by Rs25 per kg.
