Azerbaijan's potato exports witnessed a 9% decline in 2023, with shipments to Russia plummeting by 15%

Azerbaijan's potato exports witnessed a 9% decline in 2023, according to data from the State Statistical Committee. The country exported 71,192 tons of potatoes amounting to $30,930,250, marking an 11.9% decrease compared to the previous year.

The bulk of exports were directed towards Russia, with 62,642 tons of potatoes shipped, amounting to $33,446,650, reflecting a 15% drop. Russia accounted for 88% of Azerbaijan's potato exports during the reporting period.

Conversely, potato imports surged by 8%, reaching 172,656 tons valued at $49,174,000, marking a 17.7% increase. Major suppliers of potatoes to Azerbaijan included Russia, providing 67,842 tons worth $17,015,810, and Iran, contributing 38,747 tons worth $10,086,270.

In 2022, Azerbaijan exported 78,301 tons of potatoes valued at $35,121,660. The decrease in exports and increase in imports signify shifts in the potato trade dynamics for Azerbaijan in 2023.
