Wellington Carvalho, Don Vicente:

“The limes market is always very dynamic and not predictable at all”

Italy and Spain will now be served directly with Brazilian Tahiti limes by the exporter Don Vicente, following agreements at last week’s show in Berlin. According to Wellington Carvalho, sales manager from the exporter Don Vicente, “We have started a new partnership in Italy and Spain. These market had our brand indirectly but now we will develop exports directly.”

He says the limes market is very unpredictable with pricing varying widely according to the season. “The limes market is always very dynamic and not predictable at all. Every year is a unique year and we are constantly being surprised. After having this contact in person with some of our usual clients and new clients we are very optimistic on improving our volumes for this year. All this is being realised due to the work we have developed to ensure a good level of quality standards all year around.”

Carvalho says that in their main markets in Europe, which are currently in winter, demand is slower. The peak season for limes from Brazil is usually from May to October each year. “Demand is rising gradually with the weather changes in Europe, as the consumption of limes is higher in warmer weather.”

Don Vicente grow and export limes from their base in Sao Paulo in Brazil. “We export around 250 containers per year and the weekly volumes depending on the period of the year. During the low season we send three to four containers per week and during the high season we could reach 10 containers in the same week. We are always looking for suppliers that helps us to increase our volumes in the short term with quality, which is the most important for us. We have other conversations ongoing with new markets that should bear fruit,” ends Carvalho on a positive note.
