Greek weather led to near-perfect conditions

"Demand for tangerines remains robust"

The Greek weather has been good for the production of tangerines. Orestis-Rafail Miliotis, owner of Greek tangerine exporter Nature’s Tangerine, states they’ve had a near-perfect season for their first steps in the export market: “I'm thrilled to delve into the realm of cultivation and exportation. We have over four decades dedicated to growing tangerines and are now embarking on our export journey. Comparing this year's cultivation period to previous ones, we were fortunate to experience near-perfect conditions this season, evading the challenges of heavy rainstorms and cold weather, that have troubled us in the past.”

Miliotis states that the opportunities of getting into the export market has been very exciting for him. After focusing on the European market, he hopes to ship his tangerines across the globe. “Upon reaching 21 years of age, it became my responsibility to elevate my family's legacy and venture into exporting our natural goods independently. Despite facing challenges, such as limited connections and market research, we were determined to succeed. Our initial objective is to expand our presence in the European market, leveraging our reputation for quality. While we remain open to opportunities in other continents, we aim to gain expertise in European markets, before venturing into global export.”

According to Miliotis, they are currently making sure that the details are correct, rather than rushing in full speed: “The demand for tangerines remains robust. One notable trend is the growing interest among suppliers for unprocessed products without waxing, emphasizing the appeal of ‘straight from the tree to the stores’ for us. This season's volumes are relatively modest compared to previous years. As we venture into exporting, our focus is on meticulous attention to detail, to ensure the highest quality and avoid potential pitfalls for our customers, rather than pushing out as much as we can, as fast as we can.”

Exhibiting during Fruit Logistica could certainly prove to boost the orders for Nature’s Tangerine. “With this season ending on a positive note, our priority now is maintaining the health of our trees to sustain the high quality of the tangerines in future seasons. Additionally, our company's goal is to foster more connections in the market and pursue expansion opportunities, hence our participation during Fruit Logistica in Berlin last week,” Miliotis concludes.
