February 2024 price fluctuations: a look at Ukraine's fruit and vegetable market

In February 2024, the prices of fruits and vegetables in Ukraine experienced fluctuations influenced by seasonality and various factors.

According to data from the Ministry of Finance, the cost of some fruits increased while others decreased.

Oranges, for instance, saw a decrease in price compared to January 2024, with the average price dropping by 0.5 euros per kilogram to 1.8 euros. Egyptian oranges are slightly cheaper, priced at around 1.26 euros per kilogram.

Mandarins now cost approximately 1.24 euros per kilogram on average, marking a significant decrease of 0.5 euros compared to the beginning of the year. Moroccan mandarins, however, are priced higher at 3.6 euros per kilogram.

Lemons also saw a decrease in price by 0.27 euros, with the average price standing at 1.30 euros per kilogram.

Bananas, on the other hand, remained relatively stable in price, with supermarkets and markets selling them at around 1.5 euros per kilogram.

Ukrainian apples slightly increased in price, now averaging 0.5 euros per kilogram.

Grapes became the costliest among fruits, priced at 6.4 euros per kilogram. This marks an increase of 0.43 euros compared to January.

Forecasts for the end of winter 2024 suggest that prices of certain vegetables may rise by 2-7%, depending on the type of vegetable and overall economic conditions in the country.

Currently, cabbage is sold at 0.35 euros per kilogram, potatoes at 0.64 euros, onions at 0.41 euros, greenhouse cucumbers at 2.3 euros, imported cucumbers starting from 3.2 euros per kilogram, and tomatoes from 2 euros per kilogram.
