Good European demand for Brazilian mangoes continues

The very good European market demand for mangoes from Brazil continues with producers and exporters supplying as much volume as they are able to harvest. Patricia Maruska, co-owner of forever5 exports in Brazil: “Brazil is now exporting mangoes to Europe, which we don’t usually do from January to March, because we have a very strong national market. But, because Europe is short on supply and there is no mangoes except from Brazil, we decided to continue supplying this market.”

She says the big demand is due to the problems that Peru had with their production. “This is leading to the big demand from Brazil, so it was a very good time and year. It is still good for us. We have Palmer and Tommy mango varieties with most of our exports are the Palmer variety. December was difficult because we had a lot of small sizes, but the sizing is returning to normal. We now have mangoes of medium to big sizes. The quality of Palmer is good too,” states Maruska.

The demand for mangoes is good across Europe but is a little higher in some countries on the continent. “The demand from the Netherlands is very good, in Spain as well as the UK market. Sales prices are now between €11 to €12 per box, it’s very good.”

Forever5 are growers of limes, mangoes and grapes who prefer to ship their products to the different markets. “We only send the mangoes by boat, but a lot of other exporters send it by air. forever5 has been trading for eight years. I am in the fruit business for the past for 20 years, we have a lot of good quality fruit and we take care of our trees.”

Ginger supply from Brazil increasing
Maruska says since the Covid pandemic many markets opened for Brazilian ginger. “A lot of markets opened for the Brazilian supply. Every year the Brazilian supply of ginger is getting stronger and stronger. We start with ginger exports in June. All of the European markets are requesting our ginger, especially the ethnic consumers who know our product very well.”
