Potato Market Update 7th February

Across Europe, demand from exporters is adding competition to the potato market

Irish home consumption and retail sales are holding firm, likewise the peeling market is strong. The market remains strong for pre-pack quality stock. In terms of the upcoming season, the cost and availability of seed is challenging. Supplies all over Europe are tight, which has driven up the cost considerably.

Across Europe, demand from exporters is adding competition to the market and processors have been offering premiums for March delivery. Rising prices have stifled export movement but there is keen interest from buyers in the Mediterranean and also from the East. World Potato Markets report that prices in Poland have risen 10% over the last two weeks
