“Empty mango market and very high prices”

“There are very few Peruvian mangos on the market at the moment,” according to a French operator. Last year, volumes were sufficient but the current campaign got off to a later start. Numerous climate phenomena have severely impacted Peruvian production. Kent, “the main variety recognized for its quality” is said to have seen its volumes reduced by almost 70%.”

Poor weather conditions
The El Niño weather phenomenon “considerably reduced production and delayed the Peruvian mango season.” As a result, the market is “virtually empty”, which has led to a significant rise in prices, with some operators talking of “very high” prices. As for Mexican mangoes, they are not expected to arrive on the market until March.
