MSC led Ecuador's banana shipments in 2023

In 2023, MSC recorded a 23.59% share of Ecuador's banana box shipments, surpassing its closest competitor, Maersk, which recorded a 23.16% share.

354.63 million boxes of bananas were exported in 2023, i.e. 4.52% more than in the previous year. 85.12% of these boxes were shipped in containers and the remaining 14.88% were exported in bulk.

Containerized exports increased by 5.37% over 2022, while bulk exports decreased by 0.09%. Despite this decrease, the total volume of banana boxes exported increased by 15.32 million compared to 2022.

Bananas were mainly exported through the port of Guayaquil, with a 65.11% share, followed by Puerto BolĂ­var with 22.11%, and Posorja with 12.78%.
