Higher prices to be expected

Egyptian garlic season begins

The Egyptian garlic season is about to kick off, after a successful season last year. Ralph Nakhal, from the growing and exporting company Tomna, says: "Last year we exceeded our sales targets thanks to our good reputation in the market. We were able to increase our volumes with existing customers and win new customers in different countries. Overall, we exported 150% of the previous season's volumes."

The exporter continues, "We're getting off to a great start this season, with fresh green garlic, namely the white and violet varieties shipped by air. We will then switch to containers in the second week of February. At the same time, we are also shipping spring onions until April".

The season will be dynamic, announces Ralph, "on the garlic sector, we are expecting higher prices than last year, as the area devoted to garlic in Egypt has decreased. I think there will be good demand for this product. In terms of production, we are currently in the trial phase and we should unveil our new varieties ready for export by 2025."

The exporter concludes: "This year, we're exhibiting at Fruit Logistica in Berlin, hall 22, stand B59, to meet our old friends and set up the programs for the coming season. We'll have plenty of surprises at our booth, waiting for everyone."
