CBI helps exporters present themselves in Berlin

Lebanon continues to develop as agricultural alternative source for Europe

Lebanon has been operating under the heavy weight of multiple economic and political crises, and was recently impacted by the rising tensions in the region, facing threats of expansion and the fear of being dragged further into war. Yet the picture is not always gloomy. As the production of a wide range of products is growing and export is expanding.

This is especially the case for table grapes and avocado which are getting further attention, becoming a ‘nearby’ alternative for products previously sourced from farther destinations, in the same window of supply for the European retailers who are interested in sourcing the products closer to home.

According to Piet Schotel of CBI, even carrots, potatoes and other vegetables of Lebanese origin can be interesting for Europe: “The production of grapes and avocado is growing strongly every year and a transition towards cultivating varieties that are welcome and in demand in Europe is beginning to show. With the availability of new packing and cold storage facilities, products can be professionally packed and pre-cooled.”

CBI supports 22 export and producing enterprises in an Export Coaching Program. The growth of the Lebanese companies in the program has been going well, Schotel explains: “Targeting their export specifically at Europe, eleven companies will be exhibiting in the Fruit Logistica fair in Berlin, from 7-9 February.”

The exporters from Lebanon will be exhibiting during Fruit Logistica, you can find their stand in Hall 22, stand D10.
