Citrus exports from Iran reach Russia through Solyanka Port for the first time

In a first, a shipment of Iranian citrus fruit exports was transported to the Russian Federation via the Solyanka Port corridor by the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL).

Solyanka Port, located in Russia’s Caspian port city of Astrakhan, is now operational as part of a project financed by IRISL. The port provides the necessary infrastructure for inspecting, sampling, and testing for customs clearance, as well as the transfer of perishable goods stored in refrigerated containers in a completely hygienic environment.

The Solyanka corridor, with the capacity to handle 40 refrigerated containers in its customs section, is anticipated to boost Iran’s exports to Russia, as reported by Mehr News Agency.

The first cargo of Iranian exports, including citrus fruit, was freighted from Iran’s Amirabad Port in the northern province of Mazandaran to Astrakhan in Russia on Friday.

Solyanka port, under Iranian control, serves as Iran’s strategic base in the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC). The Khazar Sea Shipping Lines Company, an IRISL affiliate, purchased 53 percent of Astrakhanskiy Port Company shares from the owner of Solyanka Port in 2010, to facilitate cargo shipments.
