Italian company PND presents its new SM2 machine

Mechanical peeling machine for pomegranates

In recent years, pomegranates have become increasingly popular and widely consumed, thanks to their nutritional benefits. Virginia Cascella, export manager of PND, an Italian company specialized in the construction of fruit processing machinery, talks about the fresh-cut sector.

“There are many ways to consume a pomegranate, but it is in processing this fruit that the highest degree of specialization is required," says the expert. Our SM2 machine, which is hand-loaded and suitable for small production, is designed to peel pomegranates. The fruit is manually halved and loaded into two processing headers," she says.

"A mechanical system moves a lever through a membrane," she explains. "This intermittently taps the fruit, separating the intact arils from the peel. The machines can be sold individually or as an in-line unit with an attached wash tank, cutting table and product discharge conveyor. The discharge can also be into water, where the separation of the arils from the white inner membrane takes place.”

The machine operates at approximately 6 cycles per minute and is made of stainless steel. All components are easily replaceable and all contact parts are made of food-grade material. It is small and compact, making it space efficient and easy to handle in reduced production.

Quick and easy to clean and maintain
"The peeling machine presented in October 2023 is already being used by companies in Italy and abroad and will be presented again at Fruit Logistica 2024," concludes Cascella. "It's one of three machines we'll be exhibiting in Berlin, our main fair, from 7 to 9 February. Trade shows have always provided business and networking opportunities, allowing us to keep abreast of developments in techniques and new technologies in the sector, as well as to improve our performance, with the prospect of following up after the show. To mark the event, interested parties are invited to attend a demo."

PND operates worldwide and is always responsive and available for any maintenance, both routine and extraordinary. It offers its customers machining lines adapted to their needs and requirements, and a prompt service response.
